Hey everyone, your best friend Sara here! Welcome to my ‘Places with Sara‘ section
I can’t wait to pack my bags and head out once the pandemic exits from our lives. Until then let’s read through these wonderful travel memories from kids. Let’s keep our wish lists ready!
What’s the best way to learn? Travel, writes 12 year old Shrivika R from Bangalore. Check out her amazingly detailed travel story from her trip to Ooty!
I had holidays for ten days. My exams had just finished. My parents and I decided to go for a trip as the COVID-19 cases were less. We hadn’t visited hill stations, so we decided to visit Ooty as it was near Karnataka and beautiful.
We flew to Coimbatore International Airport which is the nearest airport to Ooty.
Then we booked a cab and drove to Ooty. It took around 3.5 hours to reach. We stayed at a nearby hotel called ‘Rose Valley.’ It was a 4 star hotel. The rooms were spacious for us.
The weather was rainy most of the times. Because of the fog, the city seemed to levitate in the clouds.
The next morning, we visited three places. They were:
• Nilgiri Mountain Valley
It has the Toy Train. The train had cartoon characters on it. My dad and I took a ride on it. It was wonderful.
All the seats were full with lots of enjoyment. I was looking out of the window and eating a double scooped ice cream. ?I could see the mountains and valleys covered in the mist.
Next we visited,
Lastly, on that day we visited,
I had always wanted to visit this as I am a wildlife enthusiast. I adore deer. There were a variety of deer in the park such as Sambar deer. I loved it and touched one too.
It was 7 in the evening and it was time to return to our hotel. It took 30 minutes to reach the hotel and it was snack time. Mother gave me a sandwich. I enjoyed it. Father said, “We’ll have more fun tomorrow but get some sleep now.” We switched off the lights and went to bed.
It was morning, another day of excitement. I brushed my teeth and took a bath. It was 10AM. At 12 noon we again set off to see something new. We visited four interesting places that day. They were:
It took 30 minutes to reach this spot. It is the highest peak of the Nilgiris. It is a fabulous spot for trekking. I was happy to visit this place. It was huge. There were signs of ‘Do not pluck flowers’ and ‘Do not litter.’ This is a sign which everyone needs to follow. We spent an hour there.
I love roses and I had landed on the rose garden! It is said to be ‘The Heart of Ooty.’
It had multiple colours, varieties and scents. I begged father to buy me a bouquet and he finally bought me one. It was one of the best places I liked.
This place was very peaceful. I liked its architecture and design. Its carving is praiseworthy. It was simple and beautiful. The timber was of a good quality.
I was amazed by this place. The flowers and plants here were made of thread! It was a real artful creation. We took infinite pictures here. At first I was doubting it, but when I touched it, I got to know that it is true. It is one of the most recommended places to visit in Ooty.
The best moment of my visit was a wind that came from the window while I was in the toy train and my hair went in all four directions!
Flights were booked and the next morning we flew to Kempegowda International Airport. I learnt various things in my visit like art, religious beliefs and the food practices over there. The journey was awesome.
Travelling is a great way to collect knowledge.
